To the Editor,

Music can calm you down or stir you up. Send you to war or the grave, or both. Music is the ultimate experience of love or hate. There is very little in life that can’t be expressed by music. The story in the lyrics and the mood in the melody.

I can’t read a written musical score, perhaps because I am not mathematical and written music is very mathematical. I love the blues, Dixieland jazz and classics in all fields of music. My personal experience in a choir and on stage solo have been the happiest and scariest moments of my life. It’s the music and the people I have met in those experiences that I cherish most.

Music is like sports, it has the potential to unite and divide us, as is the case in almost all human endeavors.

So the next time you find yourself moving to a rhythm, tapping a toe, singing or whistling a tune, know that you are in a good space, responding to the power of music.
