LETTER: Four Paws Food Bank-Barriere closing

Letter to the editor

To the editor,

Four Paws Food Bank-Barriere, after much discussion, has made the decision to “close its doors.”

In 2020, with the excellent support of Barriere Chamber of Commerce, we did a poll to gather data on whether there was a need for our kind of service, specifically a pet food bank. The poll responses indicated both a need and community support. Based on this, we proceeded to set up a satellite location of the service Four Paws Food Bank Foundation offers in Kamloops.

After a full three months of service, we have found that thankfully, there is not a high need after all! The responses in the poll indicating community support, however, certainly held true!

We would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to everyone for making our experience a positive one, especially during the fires and for evacuees. We are happy to have had the opportunity to interact in the community in this manner, and to help a few families in the process.

We want to reassure people that there are still resources for anyone in need, including the long-time service provided at the Barriere Food Bank, and Four Paws’ weekly pet food bank in Kamloops.

All the best,

Chris and Leia
