Jenkins Road: To turn or not to turn

To the Editor,

The intersection of Highway 5 and Jenkins Road in Blackpool is a death trap, and will get much worse.

No turning lanes, a long, straight stretch with high speeds and a truck transfer station on the west side whose only access, at this moment, is Jenkins Road. With the increasing traffic, especially semis and heavy equipment movement, we have an existing and future public safety disaster.

Having claimed at least three lives and seriously injured at least five over the past 10 years, this intersection should be a top priority for local and provincial authorities.

I understand that both local and regional authorities have been actively pursuing a solution and for that I am encouraged. We just have to get provincial authorities to come on board.

Let’s be proactive instead of reactive in this obvious threat to the travelling public.

As a resident of Blackpool who used this intersection at least twice a day, I fear for my family and friends’ safety at this very dangerous site.

Wes Morden,

Blackpool, B.C.
