A spotted sandpiper looks for food along the bank of the North Thompson River near Clearwater last week. According to Wikipedia, the bird’s breeding habitat is near fresh water across most of Canada and the United States. They migrate to the southern U.S. and South America, and sometimes find their way to Europe. They are unusual in that the females may mate and lay eggs for more than one male, then leave the males to incubate the eggs.
