Quesnel Mounties are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision on Highway 97, they said in a news release.

On Friday (Nov. 29) at around 4:30 p.m., the Quesnel RCMP responded to a report of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 97, near Hush Lake Road, 20 km north of Quesnel.

When police arrived at the scene they found a semi-truck and trailer collided with a pickup truck.

The driver, and only occupant, of the pickup was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver was a 37-year-old man from Quesnel, Mounties said.

The driver of the semi-truck was uninjured.

The highway was closed for several hours while police conducted their initial investigation at the scene. The collision remains under investigation.

There was no detour or alternate route during the closure of the highway, which lasted for around nine hours.

There was a snowfall warning in place throughout the region from Wednesday to Friday with 10 to 15 cm of snow expected. Several people on Facebook groups reported conditions were poor on the highway Friday.
