A Clearwater man hopes to produce a music video of a song he has written in order to raise funds for the children of Angila Wilson.
The song, which is titled, “An Ode to Angila Wilson,” is about the thought processes behind domestic violence and takes the theme, “Don't defend your enemies,” says Randy Hedlund.
Hedlund is a Clearwater-based real estate agent and is possibly best known as the parade master at the local Remembrance Day ceremonies.
He also writes his own songs and occasionally performs them at community events.
Angila Wilson was a Clearwater mother of three small children who was killed last spring. Her common-law husband, Iain Scott, has been charged with her murder.
Wilson's death got him thinking about how people sometimes get caught in the trap of blaming themselves when someone else is abusing them, said Hedlund.
He wrote a song to express what he was thinking, some friends helped him produce a demo tape, and now he wants to use the song in music video to raise money for Wilson's three children.
The exact cost of the video has yet to be determined, he said, but they are thinking in terms of about $50,000.
Once the video is produced, the goal then would be to raise $75,000 – or $25,000 for each of the children.
Any amount raised over the $75,000 target would go to projects to combat domestic violence, either through North Thompson Communities Foundation or Yellowhead Community Services Society.
Arrangements are being made for YCS to issue receipts to those who donate, and a crowd-funding page is being set up.
Richard Stroh will produce and direct the video. Local musicians who have agreed to take part include Doug Fenwick, Andy Lees and Gerda Faber.
