This ‘valley village’ is something to truly be thankful for

In life, we are often challenged in knowing just how to reach out to a family going through the sudden loss of a loved one. The feeling of helplessness and trying to find the words or comforting gestures may feel overwhelming at times.

I can tell you only from personal experience, there is no wrong way to express your compassion and those you are reaching out to in any way with kindness, concern and unconditional human love will feel your sincerity.

So many times over the years our families in this valley we call home and share as neighbours have struggled with loss and tragedy. We understand it’s part of life but I truly feel from experience, it’s the incredible reaching out, the unity and authentic emotion, even the practical gestures of bringing meals, dropping off cards or a little plant, just being ready to hug or listen, or not, is what becomes a huge blanket of comfort when needed most.

Our family has seen time and again how generous, thoughtful, and supportive this valley is when an unexpected tragedy or loss occurs. When the catch phrase ripples through ‘Love where you live’, it couldn’t be more true than the pride that comes with feeling so cared for and part of this long valley that stretches from before Barriere to Valemount and everywhere in between.

I just wanted to simply say, to one and all, I’m so very proud of the incredible people, our friends, our families, the ‘newbies’ that join us because they sense the quality of life we share and how everyone in this spectacular ‘valley village’ continues to inspire as a community family. From the youngest to the eldest, kindness, forgiveness, acceptance and a volunteerism that goes continually above and beyond, emphasizes the majority feeling of a unified caring that far outweighs any negativity here.

It’s an honour to learn about each and everyone of you. Everyone has a story, we have all suffered, survived, grown and worked side-by-side. There is no where else on earth like this. How many times have you heard that?

When you are a giver it is a bit challenging to receive but it can be so beautifully humbling to learn to receive with grace.

Just some positive thoughts and observations this week as someone who sees your hearts. You are amazing and I’m so thankful to be part of the fabric of this ‘valley village’ with you. Your spirits touch my soul in more ways than you could possibly know. I treasure your presence in this life school journey as we walk it together.
