The Vavenby Volunteer Fire Department is the recipient of some new equipment that will help the team get to hard-to-access areas more quickly.
The VVFD began their Off-Road Firefighting Capability Improvement Project earlier this year. Chief Philip Weber said in an email statement that many community partners donated to the project, including CN, TransMountain and BC Hydro, as well as the Community Resiliency Fund through the provincial government.
With the funds the VVFD was able to purchase a brand new 2021 Polaris Ranger 4x4 UTV with a water/foam delivery system. The total cost of the vehicle was $16,000, while the foam system was another $7,000.
“I want to thank everyone that helped with this,” Weber said in the statement.
The team will host an open house and show off the new vehicle to the community in April 2022.
