Youngsters enjoy a skating party at Vavenby's outdoor rink on Feb. 5.

The students at Vavenby Primary School went by bus to the Clearwater ski hill on Friday, Jan. 27. Skis were provided at the hill and instructors taught them how to ski.

One student said that she didn't do the "pizza" - how to stop. She said that she dug the side of her ski into the snow instead.

When asked what their favorite part was some said skiing down the mountain, others said going up on the T-bar, and a few said seeing a boy do the splits when he fell. Most of the children want to go back next year.

Learning about fish

The school has salmon fry again in an aquarium. The students take turns feeding them four times a day. The children were told that they should give each fry a name. That's a lot of names.

Valentine's breakfast

Vavenby Trails and Recreation Society had its January meeting on Jan. 26. At the meeting the members decided to hold a community Valentine's breakfast at Vavenby Community Hall on Sunday, Feb. 12, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.. The breakfast will be by donation.

Outdoor rink gets used

There was a skating party at Vavenby's outdoor skating rink on Sunday afternoon, Feb. 5.

Approximately 12 young children showed up with adults and some older kids too.

It was a colder day with a bit of a breeze but no snow. Everyone was having fun, even the adults as they skated on their boots.

Free hot dogs and hot chocolate were provided.

Visiting friends at monthly potluck

The January community potluck lunch at the Vavenby church was on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Twenty-six people attended and enjoyed visiting with each other.

The next community potluck lunch at the church will be on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Come on out and enjoy yourself.
