Use your car seat

Using a child car seat can reduce the risk of injury and death by up to 85 per cent

BURNABY/CNW/ - Using a child car seat can reduce the risk of injury and death by up to 85 per cent. Children go through four car seat stages:

• From birth to one year and until your child is nine kg (20 lb.), your child must be restrained in a rear-facing child car seat.

• Stage two - Your child has outgrown their rear-facing seat, is at least one year, weighs more than nine kg (20 lb.) Your child can now ride in a forward-facing child car seat.

• Stage three - Your child has outgrown a forward-facing car seat, is at least 18 kg (40 lb.). Your child requires a booster seat. The booster seat lifts the child up so that the seat belt is positioned correctly.

• Stage four - Your child is at least nine years old, or at least 145 cm (4' 9") tall, and at the appropriate size for a seat belt.
