Youngsters in a Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department truck throw candies from the window at the MayDay parade in 2018. Unfortunately, this year’s parade has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Wells Gray Country Seniors Society (WGCSS) organized many activities for its members pre-COVID days, but recent meetings suggest it’s time to bring several of these back to life. More will be added as restrictions (hopefully) ease.

While the popular, monthly “Learn and Lunch” isn’t possible yet, outdoor lunches are on the list for both June and July. Limit is 50 attendees, so members need to check emails carefully for details. Not a member yet and over 50? Call Eileen Sedgwick at 250-674-2400, Laura Pickering at 250-587-2372 or Lynne Frizzle (Seniors Coordinator) 250-674-8185.

Current membership is over 100; cost to join is $12 per person, per year.

With thanks to Sandra Holmes and contributing authors, photographers and artists, the Writers’ Circle has produced Collected Works #7. This is off to the printers this month and will soon be selling for $20 per copy. Book Club has graduated from Zoom to a spacious backyard with a covered area if needed. Both these groups look forward to meeting at the Clearwater Library when allowed.

Sit and Be Fit yoga has been live-streamed, but is over until September when the hopes are to meet in person. Optimistically, we anticipate that high school students will once again provide Teckie help in the seniors’ room. Also still to come are Bunco, Third Sunday Social, Men’s Shed and bus trips to interesting places in the North Thompson. Will one of the outings be to the Christmas play with Western Canada Theatre? Fingers crossed! We will let you know as soon as all of these fun events start happening. Many members enjoy a weekly hike, protocols followed.

Unfortunately, the Rotary’s annual parade (May Days) has been cancelled for this year because of the restrictions. And there we were, all excited and ready to start another fine float. Ah well, the ideas will keep until May 2022.

Are you interested in volunteering? The Elks, who are once again providing delicious pancake breakfasts every Saturday morning, are seeking helpers. Several of our members have offered to assist; sign up next time you join the line-up for brekkie.

Wells Gray Country Seniors Society is a vibrant group with lots of potential to increase in size and in the number of activities and events it organizes. Phone (as above) for more information.
