Thompson-Nicola Regional District will host a free seminar about composting at Clearwater ski hill on Saturday, April 12, at 10 a.m.
The event will part of the annual Seedy Saturday sale of gardening and related items.
The seminar will discuss three composting options – worm, Green Cone and backyard – and will last about 30 minutes.
After the seminar, attendees can buy composters and composting equipment. Cash and credit cards will be accepted.
The following equipment will be available for purchase:
• Backyard composters ($25)
• Green Cone food digesters ($100)
• Worm composters with worms ($75; must call ahead to reserve worms as quantities will be limited)
• Compost aerators ($10)
Composting is great way for TNRD residents to save on tipping fees and divert waste from landfills, as well as provide nutrient-rich soil for their gardens. It’s estimated that nearly a third of all household waste is made up of organic waste.
