TNRD libraries hold Guess the Banned Book contest in February

Thompson-Nicola Regional District Library System is celebrating Freedom to Read Week with a Guess the Banned Book Contest

Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) Library System is celebrating Freedom to Read Week with a Guess the Banned Book Contest.

Freedom to Read Week is a national initiative that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom, which is guaranteed under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

"The Banned Book Contest is a way for us to showcase our freedoms as a reader," said Erika Einarson, TNRD library system reference librarian. "Many crucial pieces of literature have at one time been banned from being read by the public."

From Feb. 1 to 29, drop in to your local branch and read the clues given for three books that have been challenged or banned. Fill out an entry form with the title of one of the books, your name and your phone number. Then place your entry form in the drop box. At the end of the month a winner will be drawn at each branch.

More information, including the clues for the three books, can be found at your branch library.

For more information about the contest call the Kamloops Library at 250-372-5145.
