The Vavenby Community Park rink has now been closed by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District for infrastructure improvements.
Work will begin Aug. 22 to replace the rink surface and is expected to be completed in November. According to a board report, the outdoor ice rink was built in 2005 and after 16 years of outdoor exposure, it has deteriorated. It was determined it was most effective to replace the rink, rather than repair it.
The project is funded through the Canada Community-Building Fund and the TNRD Area A community parks budget.
