Residents of the upper North Thompson Valley did well in a writing contest held this spring to commemorate Thompson-Nicola Regional District’s 50th anniversary.

According to information released during a TNRD board of directors meeting held Aug. 17, Clearwater’s Eileen Sedgwick won second place in the adult category with her story, “Clearwater Rambles.”

Third place in the adult category went to Val Luger of Vavenby with her write-up, “The Spahats Falls – Wells Gray Park.”

“Childhood Memories,” a story by Juniper Wadlegger, a Grade 9 student at Clearwater Secondary School, won third place in the secondary school category.

A total of 40 entries were received for the writing contest.

The contest featured prizes awarded in each age category for short stories or poems about the TNRD.

The winning stories and poems are available online at the TNRD’s 50th anniversary website.

A coloring contest for children is underway and will continue until the end of August at every TNRD library branch including the bookmobile.

Up next this fall will be a photo contest. TNRD residents will be encouraged to take and submit photos of the region for a chance to win one of the great prizes offered.

The contest will start on Sept. 1 and will close on Oct. 31.

Photos that meet the eligibility requirements will be uploaded to a dedicated TNRD Instagram page where viewers can help with the selection of winners by clicking on the photo(s) they like best.

Eligible photos must have been taken within the TNRD and must represent nature, landscape or scenery in the region (no photos of identifiable people or businesses).
