It’s that time of year, once again, for the Clearwater Times’ annual Christmas story contest.
Area youngsters are encouraged to put on their thinking caps and compose their own Christmas-themed story for this newspaper and our readers. The contest is open to students and home-schooled students in two divisions, from Kindergarten to Grade 7.
We ask our young writers to tell us a story in 400 words or less about one of the three following themes:
#1 - You’re one of Santa’s elves. Write a journal entry about your day at Santa’s workshop in the North Pole.
#2 - Imagine your tree has a mind of its own. Write a story from your Christmas tree’s point of view on Christmas Eve.
#3 - The snowman you and a friend just built has magically come to life. Write a story about what activities you and your new snowy friend do.
Once a theme is chosen, it’s time to put a pencil to paper and let your imagination run wild.
The deadline for entries to be in the newspaper office is Thursday, Dec. 2 at 3 p.m. Once we have all the entries they will be reviewed by qualified story judges who will provide us with the results.
Winners in each age group will be announced in our Dec. 16 issue.
Prizes for each division are: First $25, second $15, third $10.
Division 1 - Kindergarten to Grade 3
Division 2 - Grade 4 to Grade 7
We request any stories that have been typed to be emailed to us so we do not have to retype; otherwise scan it or take a clear photo and email it to newsroom@clearwatertimes.com.
Alternatively, you can drop them off at the Times office: 14-74 Young Road, Brookfield Mall, Clearwater. The office is open Monday to Thursday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
