The Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is joining a province-wide recycling program called Recycle BC.

This will require changes from the TNRD’s current recycling program and Clearwater and Vavenby have been selected as the pilot communities for this new program.

The TNRD is inviting all interested members of the public to participate in a recycling education session to launch this new program.

Sessions are taking place at both the Clearwater Eco Depot and the Vavenby transfer station on Monday, June 4.

These sessions will introduce the new six stream recycling program being introduced at these sites and the new recycling program will be in place at all TNRD solid waste facilities by September 2018.

The Clearwater Recycling Education Session will take place on June 4 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Clearwater Eco Depot, located at 290 Clearwater-100 Mile FSR.

The Vavenby session takes place on June 4 and runs from 2 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. at the Vavenby Transfer Station, located at 3125 Allingham Road.

The TNRD encourages people to bring along an object or material that they are wondering how to recycle; educators and staff will be on hand to assist with determining where, how, and if it can be recycled.

The sessions will be a “field day” format taking place outdoors; comfortable clothing, sun screen, and appropriate footwear are recommended.

Please note, the Clearwater Eco Depot and Vavenby transfer station are both still closed on Monday, June 4 for the purposes of disposing of household refuse or other waste types.

Access to the site is being granted solely for the purposes of those wishing to participate in this educational opportunity.
