The latest Wells Gray Park Horseshoe update

You guessed it.

You guessed it.

The horseshoe update that I am talking about has nothing to do with horses! The update I meant is all about the hiking trail with a beautiful lookout, up in our beautiful Wells Gray Park.

It is called the Horseshoe for those of you who haven’t heard. It is a section of the Clearwater river with a reaaaaally interesting shape.

Now it wasn’t long ago you may have read about an interesting hike I had there awhile back with my hubby.

In case you missed it, you can always check back issues on the website for the Clearwater Times in the E-editions section.

Well the morning came when we decided that it had been so much fun that we would try it again! I was hoping to see if there were any changes to let you readers know.

The trail marker starts across the road from the Ray Farm parking lot in Wells Gray Park.

Having done this before, we naturally remembered it as a fairly, short and easy hike. Well, this turned out to be not entirely true.

The trail itself is in good shape and not all that difficult. Only a couple of kilometers or so one way, depending how far along the lookout trail area you want to go.

I had not foreseen one tiny problem though. The deer!

Not that deer themselves are a bad thing, and we didn’t encounter any, drat!

We would have happily used our camera for a shot up close. However, those beautiful creatures left evidence of just how much they enjoyed that same particular trail, every ten feet!

Holy deer doo doo! It was everywhere you stepped almost, seriously.

My husband and I joked about it, that if it was worth its weight in gold, we would be rich collecting it! (Of course, we would leave that to parks) haha.

We were very busy watching where we stepped between tree roots and doo doo, that the hike was slightly less fun than it could have been.

I am not quick with my reflexes, so I needed to be extremely diligent since I did not have extra shoes along.

I didn’t want to stink up the car either, ewwwww! My trusty hiking stick helped my balance enough that my shoes emerged relatively unscathed.

The awe inspiring sight of the unique feature of the horseshoe (the river curving almost entirely back on itself) was naturally worth this return journey and we still had an enjoyable walk regardless of the doo doo! So, for the update I would say try it out! I highly recommend it, again! Just keep your eyes on the trail!
