On Tuesday, Oct. 3, the Vavenby Strong start class got ready for Thanksgiving.
The children started the morning by making turkeys for their craft. Each child had one foot traced on brown paper for the body of the bird.
Leader Jody Phillips or a parent cut out the shape as these children are very young and don’t have the skill yet. They did cut out a nose from orange paper though and a couple cut out the legs. Then feathers were glued on. Googlie eyes completed the turkey.
After the craft there was free play, a healthy snack, and story time. To end the morning everyone went to the gym to play.
Playground now in use
The new playground at Vavenby Community Hall, is now in use.
Children are loving it and Vavenby Primary School teacher Adam Forsyth took his class there once last week. There are three slides in bright green and swings for all age groups.
The main play structure and equipment were from a company in Ontario while the swings came from the United States. A husband and wife team from Prince George put all of the equipment up.
Three picnic tables have been installed under the covered area. There is a tether ball, two sets of horse shoes, and posts set up for volleyball.
On Tuesday, Oct. 3, Rolf Schuchardt was leveling out the ground to make it safer.
Fine Things Thrift Store recently donated $20,000 to Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital.
In the hospital’s thank you letter the store was told that the money would be put towards the purchase of a new ultrasound machine.
The first potluck luncheon for the fall at Vavenby Christian Church will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Come out and enjoy yourself.
