Vavenby Elementary School held its year-end ceremony on Monday, June 27. Like all schools, this is the first one that has been allowed to be held for a few years.

The ceremony began with a procession of the 31 children around the gym. Each student was wearing a graduation hat. After Principal Ms. Bradstock gave a welcome to the very large number of family members attending, everyone got their lunch. There were sub sandwiches, condiments, cupcakes and other desserts, fruit, and two kinds of punch. All of the lunch was provided by various parents.

Then teachers Mr. Woods and Ms. Gill gave addresses. Both said they have enjoyed working in the school with this group of children. Next they handed out certificates to each student. To close the ceremony, some of the Grade 7 students gave speeches that brought tears to one’s eyes. The speeches included thanks to their family, friends and teachers for being there when needed.

Nathaniel Weber’s address also included a thank you to the parents for bringing Vavenby School back to being an elementary school again, after it was shut down to just Kindergarten to Grade 3. This is the first graduating Grade 7 class since the 2010/11 school year.
