The Clearwater Speedway was closed for 15 years before local volunteers spent many hours to bring it back into operation in 2020. The track re-opened July of last year to an excited crowd. But, the track was soon closed once again, due to COVID-19 restrictions and nearby forest fires.
“This place was a mess. There even were trees growing in the trac,” recalled Terry Kerpan, Clearwater Stock Car Association’s public relations person. “Then, on opening day last year, the viewing area was full from one end to another. It looked like it would be a good season but it didn’t work out that way. We’re looking for a better year this year. ”
To help the club get ready for another season, Banister Pipelines contributed $2,000 in a cheque presentation last Wednesday. Kerpan and club vice-president Rusty Clark said they have a long list of other improvements to the local dirt oval track that they hope Banister and other sponsors will help with.
The local 2022 season will kick off with a weekend of racing on May 7 and 8. A total of five weekends are planned for Clearwater. They will alternate with racing weekends at Merritt Speedway.
