A School District 73 Transportation Department representative is advising parents in the Agate Bay area that the school bus will not be running on Tuesday, Jan. 11, and to make other arrangements for student transportation requirements to and from Barriere schools until further notice.

The bus is temporarily out of service due to a driver being unavailable at this time.

Sherry Kristjanson, SD73 Director of Transportation, spoke with the Star/Journal on Tuesday morning, noting students affected by this are in the Agate Bay and Brennan Creek areas.

“Our regular driver will be off at least for two weeks, and is not on leave due to having contracted COVID,” said Kristjanson.

The district will be working with students within those areas who do not have transportation available to school during this time to assist them in being current with the learning curriculum.

“We are actively looking for a replacement driver,” said Kristjanson. “We are also recruiting a number of drivers at this time, and I encourage anyone with a Class 1 or 2 licence with air who is interested in driving a school bus to contact me at 250-372-5853.”
