An open letter to the community

Happy New Year. Is one of your New Year's resolutions to become more active in our community? We invite you to volunteer. The Royal Purple gives the opportunity to be an active and vital member of the community. There is an opportunity for friendship and the chance to serve the community. While no community need is beyond consideration, the needs of children and seniors take special consideration.

Here is a brief history of Royal Purple. Members originally were the wives of the members of Elks. In 1913, their purpose was to support and assist their husbands with their benevolent charitable and social work of their order. In 1914, at the request of the Elks, the First Supreme Lodge of the Order of the Royal Purple was created. With the issuing of the Charter, these lodges were formed as a counterpart to the Elks. The first lodge was organized in Vancouver in 1914. The order has since expanded across Canada from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland to the Northwest, Yukon and Nunavut Territories.

The principles of the Royal Purple are justice, charity, love and fidelity.

In 2006, a resolution was approved to allow men to join the Royal Purple of Canada, so we now welcome men in our organization. Clearwater Lodge of the Royal Purple #302 would like to acknowledge the newest member to be initiated into our organization (on Jan. 3, 2011) Doug Bailey.

Royal Purple is one of the few organizations that proudly have its national headquarters in Western Canada - in Regina, Saskatchewan. The building is also national headquarters for Elks Canada. Royal Purple still works today with the Elks. We are a progressive, forward-thinking organization.

Clearwater Royal Purple is proud of its ties to Clearwater and the communities of the North Thompson Valley. Our membership has been active within the community of Clearwater for over 45 years. We now look to a future of addressing the ever-changing needs of the people of Clearwater while at the same time maintaining a social and fraternal outlet for our members.

We'd like to invite you to join us to help make our community a better place to live. Hopefully I've sparked you interest. Be sure to visit our information table at the Arts, Health and Wellness Fair to be held Saturday, Feb 5 at the high school. Come and see us and talk to us.
