Raft River Rockhounds

On Canada Day; Tuesday, July 1, the Raft River Rockhounds will host “Canada Rocks”, a family fun day with something for everyone.

It will be held in the square at the Wells Gray Information Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

We will have displays, numerous vendors, demonstrations on rock tumbling and metal detectors, as well as many events for children such as rock painting, sand painting and more for a small fee. We will be having a barbeque with all the fixings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. ($5 includes a drink).

Memberships in the Raft River Rockhounds will be on sale: single $30 or family $50. Consider joining us for collecting rocks, fossils, minerals, gold panning, field trips, social gathering and more. Being in a group of people who are into rockhounding is a great source of motivation, they will help identify rocks, show you where to find more, and provide field trips.

Rockhounding is healthy for the body and spirit, since you have to get outside and walk around. Kids seem to have a natural affinity to digging in dirt.

Not only do you have the opportunity to find nature’s awesome treasures, but also you get the health and social benefits as a side effect.
