As summer comes to a close, the Wells Gray Information Centre was happy to welcome many tourists and visitors this season, after a couple years hiatus.

Under the management of Tourism Wells Gray, taking over from the previous owners earlier this year, the visitor information centre saw approximately 20,209 visitors from the time the doors opened in May until the end of August. While this was about 25 per cent of the visitors who came to Clearwater back in 2019 pre-COVID, the information centre was excited to welcome new international visitors again. Most of those visiting the information centre this summer came from Europe, however there were still a strong number of B.C. residents exploring Wells Gray.

“Overall, the season went very well,” said Amanda Svenson, visitor information centre manager, in a press release. “I am thrilled with the exceptional visitor services we were able to provide and the consistency throughout the season.”

She added information centre staff went above and beyond with each visitor, and the team received a lot of positive feedback. But every season doesn’t come without its challenges and this summer wasn’t any different, Svenson noted, but that’s what helped the team to learn and grow.

“I look forward to the future and continuing to build relationships with our stakeholders, operators and the community,” she continued. “I could not be more thankful and proud of our staff for just hitting the ground running and making this season a success! Thank you to you all!”

Tourism Wells Gray is looking forward to seeing the visitor numbers increase again next year and will be working with local stakeholders to promote Clearwater and Wells Gray Park.

Tourism Wells Gray appoints a new executive director

Tourism Wells Gray is excited to welcome Claire Hanna as its new executive director.

Hanna has lived in Clearwater for over eight years and has worked in various roles throughout the community. Most recently she worked as manager of the Clearwater and District Chamber of Commerce. She brings 11 years of experience in communications, marketing and graphic design to the role and we are excited to have her join our team.

“I am thrilled to be offered the role of executive director with Tourism Wells Gray,” said Hanna in a press release. “I am looking forward to meeting all local stakeholders to identify priorities for future planning and economic development in our area.”

Hanna is committed and excited to support the development of tourism opportunities that Wells Gray and Clearwater have to offer.
