NTACCS announces new drop-in support hours

The North Thompson Aboriginal Cultural Centre Society (NTACCS) has offered many services in the area over the past years. Pre-COVID, we had a wonderful drop in opportunity, providing lunches and safe spaces for conversations in the back room behind our gift shop and museum.

The North Thompson Aboriginal Cultural Centre Society (NTACCS) has offered many services in the area over the past years. Pre-COVID, we had a wonderful drop in opportunity, providing lunches and safe spaces for conversations in the back room behind our gift shop and museum.

Those days are long gone. In the meanwhile, our Board has developed a solid relationship with the BC Metis Federation, and together we have made considerable impact during COVID and are now going to expand our current limited access and become much more visible and accessible.

Services are open to all Indigenous persons through an outlet in Clearwater. They are being designed for and are intended to include services to First Nations, Metis and Innuit families. Everyone, however, is welcome to check out our upcoming community events and discover the rich history of our people.

The main purpose of this free community service is to connect the North Thompson valley community to information, questions and any other help that may be needed. Some examples might be: When you need help with Metis membership, genealogy, language, cultural information and information for out-of-province status.

If you would like to know about upcoming cultural events and updates, or perhaps how to offer consignment items for the gift shop or discuss how you could offer a course you think might be of interest, these are the types of services we anticipate being able to help with.

Naturally, if a need arises that we haven’t considered, we will help you find a solution.

“How will we do this?” you ask. One of our directors will host Wednesday Drop-In Days. There will be an opportunity for you to apply for membership in the NTACCS to also become involved. The NTACCS will be renting space at the Dutch Lake Community Centre on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., closed for lunch between noon and 1 p.m., in a drop-in format. Therefore, first come first served, no appointment needed.

Drop in days will begin Wednesday, March 9 and will take place every second Wednesday (the following will be March 23) until the end of September.

Please keep in mind that we will be following all COVID rules and regulations, and masks are mandatory throughout the building.

Watch for ads, articles, posters and social media for all dates. Thanks to the BC Metis Federation for all of their community support, we are able to offer this free service. We must mention that we are all volunteers, and will try our best to help you and direct you to the professional services that you may require.
