A number of non-profit organizations were the recipient of some COVID cash on Nov. 3.
Thompson-Nicola Regional District director for Area A, Carol Schaffer gave out a stack of cheques to various non-profits in the Clearwater area. The funds were part of $25,000 in COVID-19 Safe Restart money given to each director in the TNRD to distribute in their area.
Schaffer noted that she decided to give out funds to multiple groups because they all have suffered in some form throughout the pandemic, whether it be through a lack of fundraising opportunities or not being able to hold events.
Cheques were handed out to: Wells Gray Country Seniors Society ($1,000), Vavenby Trail & Recreation Society ($2,000), Royal Canadian Legion Branch 259 ($2,000), Wells Gray Curling Club ($2,000), Clearwater youth Soccer Association ($2,000), Wells Gray Outdoor Club ($2,000), Raft Mountain Skating Club ($1,000), Upper Clearwater Fire Brigade ($4,000), Upper Clearwater Hall ($2,000), Star Lake Women’s Institute ($2,000), Clearwater and District Highway Rescue ($2,000), North Thompson Arts Council ($1,000), Vavenby Elementary School ($1,000), Clearwater and District Minor Hockey Association ($1,000).
TNRD director for Area B, Stephen Quinn gave a cheque for $5,000 to the Blue River Community Association and another $5,000 to Blue River Legion.
