Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing has donated $2,000 to the Blue River Elementary School parents advisory council (PAC) to assist with funding for sports equipment, outdoor activities and field trips.

The funding is expected to be doled out annually, according to MWHS. Wiegele, who first started his helicopter business in Valemount in 1970, before moving Blue River four years later, died July 15. He was 82.

“Mike always gave back to the community any chance that he could,” a MWHS spokesperson said. “He was passionate about empowering others and helping people grow. This is a legacy that Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing continues to honor under the leadership of Bonnie and Michelle Wiegele.

“Mike Wiegele Helicopter Skiing was founded on a dream. It is our hope that these donations will help provide young people with opportunities that inspire them to chase dreams and goals of their own.”

Blue River PAC treasurer Amy Deuling said they are sincerely grateful for the funding to buy much-needed sports equipment for students.

“We are so honored to carry on Mike’s love of the outdoors,” she said.
