On Saturday, Nov. 20, the Wells Gray Lively Arts Society hosted the first Coffee House since March 2020!

In the past, it has been a wonderful monthly community event for Clearwater, held in the multipurpose room at the Dutch Lake Community Centre (DLCC). Historically, coffee houses in rural areas have been a place for local people to gather, visit and play their music.

Nearly 60 people of all ages gathered in the DLCC gymnasium to enjoy a variety of music from vintage Beatles, country & folk favourites and classic rock.

The intimate, relaxed setting allowed seven acts to perform, including two or three new to the area. The audience really saw the joy of playing together again when members of other groups supported their fellow performers.

The evening began with “If I were a Carpenter” to the oldie “Homegrown Tomatoes” just before a short break with the great upbeat “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” ending the night. Even though dancing was not permitted, I am sure there were several toes tapping!

“This is my first time at your coffee house and I’m so impressed!” said a newcomer to the coffee house.

We hope - COVID willing - that our next coffee house will be on Saturday, Dec. 18, which will be Christmas-themed and items for the Clearwater Food Bank will be very welcome. Please call Gerda at (250) 67- 3944 to book your act.

The small team of WGLA Society members also provided coffee, teas and baked snacks. All our fundraising efforts will go towards a much-needed digital sound board and LED lighting. If you would like to be part of WGLA Society, please email wellsgraylivelyarts@gmail.com for a membership form or for further information.
