Four North Thompson organizations are among approximately 530 non-profit groups in mainland B.C. outside the Lower Mainland to received portions of the latest round of gaming grants.
In Clearwater, Yellowhead Community Services is getting $22,000 while 1st Wells Gray Scouts is receiving $4,000.
Barriere Recreation Society is getting $2,750 and Lady Lions Club of Barriere is getting $1,125.
Across the province, More than 1,700 groups that deliver programs that enhance and support services to children, youth, and a variety of British Columbians in need are receiving more than $32 million in community gaming grants.
In all, the provincial government has budgeted $120 million for community gaming grants in 2010-11 - $7.4 million more than last year - and has allocated almost all of this funding. The grants will help fund approximately 6,000 organizations that support people in need, education, youth arts and sports, public safety, and parent and district advisory councils.
The government considers applications for community gaming grants four times a year, with each intake devoted to a specific sector.
