Clearwater-Vavenby Legion Branch #259 has donated $500 towards the Fort McMurray Wildfire Relief Fund

Clearwater-Vavenby Legion Branch #259 has donated $500 towards the Fort McMurray Wildfire Relief Fund, according to spokesperson Calvin Lutz.

The donation is part of $1.2 million contributed by Legion branches across Canada.

According to a letter from Chris Strong, president of Alberta-NWT Command, more than one-third of the money disbursed so far has gone to individuals and families.

“In the first few weeks, we assisted evacuees with funds for food, clothing and accommodations,” Strong reported.

Other major recipients include the Fort McMurray Legion, Wood Buffalo Food Bank and the Salvation Army.
