Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary’s fifth annual Dessert Extravaganza was held the Saturday before last at Clearwater KOA and once again was a complete sell-out.

Patrons were treated to a buffet of decadent delights prepared by local culinary artists and businesses. The list included celiac and diabetic desserts.

Big prize of the evening was a trip for two anywhere that West Jet flies, and was won by Amanda Kennedy of Clearwater. Amanda stated that she has never traveled far from Clearwater and was very excited that she can now plan a trip to a favorite destination.

Master-of-ceremonies for the evening was Ron Hadley, who kept the program flowing and enjoyed handing out door prizes to those in attendance.

Bill Fowler and Doug Fenwick provided the music.

The members of the Auxiliary appreciate Dave, Anna and the staff of the KOA for the use of their facility and all the coffee, tea and condiments that they provided.

An array of wonderful silent auction items were displayed which included a VIA Rail round trip for two from Kamloops to Edmonton; a Wells Gray Air Service flight for two; a two night stay at Alpine Meadow Resort; and a trip with River Safari of Blue River.

The Auxiliary could not hold this event without sponsorships and would again like to thank all the businesses and individuals that donated items for auction to make this evening a great success.

Fay McCracken and co-chair person Leslie Wolfer spent many hours in organizing this great fundraiser for our health facilities. Other volunteers helped in setting up the chairs and tables and food arrangement (and we must mention that the decorations were fabulous!).

It was a great evening of fun, entertainment, and excellent food - especially to one person, Esther Therres, who was the big winner of our 50/50 draw of over $200.

Our next fundraiser will be the Garden Party on May 6, 2012 at the Blue Loon Grill.
