Help Rotary help Japan

Clearwater Rotary Club wants to help those affected by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency in Japan

Generous donations from local residents helped Clearwater Rotary Club provide eight Shelter Boxes following the earthquake in Haiti last year.

Now the local service organization want to do the same to help those affected by the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear emergency in Japan.

Each Shelter Box provides an instant home for a family group of about 10 people:

• A dry shelter - a roomy tent

• Warm beds

• Light and heat

• Clean water

• Cooking aids

• Tools

The Shelter Boxes are packed by volunteers so administration costs are minimized and they are made available wherever in the world there is a need. Each box costs $1,000 to stock and deliver to its destination. The more money that is donated, the more boxes we can send on their way to help ease the situation for so many families who suddenly have nothing.

Donations can be made locally at the Interior Savings Credit Union at Brookfield shopping centre where receipts can be provided. Donation jars will be located at various local businesses. All donations to Rotary are tax exempt and 100 per cent effective because no administration fees are involved.

For more information about Shelter Boxes, you can check out their website at www.shelterbox.ca.

Donations can also be made on line at the above website where a tax receipt will be given right away. This is a safe and efficient way for Clearwater folks to participate in this relief effort.
