Isaac Moilliet plays a role in a comedy video he produced himself as a high school project. The home-educated student recently celebrated his graduation.

On Sunday, July 10, Vavenby Christian Church was packed with members of the church and relatives, friends of Isaac Moilliet and some of the Y2C (Youth to Christ) youth group members – 65 people in all.

After the service there was a graduation party for Isaac, the Moilliets' youngest child and Karen Moilliet's last home-taught student. Karen had set up grad parties for her other children in her garden at Aveley Ranch but she said, "No more taking risks with the weather. Let's plan to eat outside but have a building other than my house to run to if the showers do come."

And the rain did come down in buckets but the people eating outside didn't have far to run to get shelter.

The first part of the grad party was a delicious and varied cold potluck luncheon. Then everyone returned to the sanctuary for a short ceremony.

Steve Raschke, one of the leaders of Y2C and one of Isaac's youth group mentors, got up first to roast and toast Isaac in a short speech.

Then two of Isaac's video projects were shown. Laughter filled the church when his comedy was shown. The young children were glued to it and giggling away, especially when the ghost made an appearance.

A second video, a more serious high school history project; was shown next. It was based on Isaac's family's history in Canada.

Four of Isaac's siblings were present joined with their dad, Ian Moilliet, in giving their brother a blessing for life. Then a letter from Vienna, his sister who could not be at the grad party as she is in the Philippines studying to be a midwife, was read.

In the fall Isaac plans to go to Alberta Bible College, as many of the Moilliet family have done. He hopes to study filmmaking after that.

Karen said that 31 years ago she and Ian decided to home-educate their children. She said that " loosely structured but highly disciplined" was her mindset for curriculum. Educating and teaching to her children's strength's was her motto. It has worked true as all of the Moilliet children have gone on to develop their skills to enhance their community, and become hard working citizens.

Many of Vavenby's young children went with Vicki Cook for Sunday School during the sermon. Cook had the kids make congratulation cards for Isaac. He is sometimes their teacher.

Cook also made a beautiful card for the congregation to sign.

No more boil water advisory

Residents on the Vavenby water system were phoned on Friday, July 15, to let them know that the boil water advisory had been lifted.

The water is now safe for consumption. The town had been put on it in February due to the high turbidity in the water.

Watch your pets

Coyotes have been seen in Vavenby. Keep a good watch on your animals. Some farm animals have already been killed.
