Pokomchi handcrafts, games of skill and some hot pizza were all available at Raft River Elementary School on Friday, Feb. 3.

The Fun Night was staged to help raise funds for the Hope of the Pokomchi organization set up by Bill and Linda Brierly of Upper Clearwater. The Pokomchí people are one of the many indigenous groups of Mayan descent in Guatemala.

Students under direction from Clearwater Girl Guide leaders managed most of the activities taking place in the gym. There was a silent auction, games of chance, a “fishing” pond and some raffles.

There were also there short movies about life in Guatemala for the Pokomchi. They were shown regularly throughout the evening.

The Girl Guides ran the concession, which sold pieces of (Double R) pizza, juice and coffee. Clearwater and District Food Bank also had representatives collecting donations at the door.
