Friends, neighbours hit bullseye with Lyons fundraiser ar Barriere Legion

There was a dart-a-thon and luncheon

Friends, family and even strangers gathered at the Legion Sunday, March 26 to take part in a dart-a-thon and fundraiser to support Patti and Bruce Lyons.

The Lyons’ home of 33 years on Haggard Road was destroyed in an electrical fire earlier this month.

Organizers and friends, Maureen and Frank Wiseman, said a total of $1,600 was raised for Patti and Bruce, with the Barriere Dart Club donating $1,000 and another $600 raised through the luncheon and donations.

“They’re wonderful people,” said Maureen of Patti and Bruce. “They’re great friends and Legion members. We wanted to help.”

Patti and Bruce were also at the event and said they spend every day working at their property from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., as they tear down and plan to rebuild. They did not have house insurance as they were unable to get any due to being identified as being on a flood plain, Patti said, adding they’ve never been in a position where they have needed help from others.

“It’s hard, but we’re accepting it,” Patti said of the donations and support they have received from the community. “We’ve been very fortunate. I get emotional just thinking about (all the support we’ve received).

The couple thanked everyone for their generosity.
