From 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. a free light dinner will be provided during a keynote presentation by Merlyn Horton about parenting in a cyber-age

Join Clearwater Secondary School and the Community Outreach Program on Thursday, Feb. 2, for a day of free workshops focusing on health and wellness.

The day will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the CSS gym with students from Grades 5-12 attending a presentation by Merlyn Horton, executive director of Safe Online Outreach Society, about Being Kind Online. After lunch, Grade 7 students from Raft River Elementary School and Clearwater Secondary School students will participate in interactive workshops on topics such as test-taking strategies, boot camp, nutrition, energy drinks, self-defense, how to talk about suicide, healthy relationships, and gaming and gambling to name only a few.

Starting at 3:15 there will be two sessions of after-school workshops, with slightly different topics that will be open to the public. The workshops will include Parenting, Zumba, Budgeting, Research Project on the Development of a Youth Clinic and Exploring Social Media through the Eyes of the Police, to name a few. Organizers encourage parents and students to attend the after school workshops together. However, the workshops will be open to all even if you do not have a school-aged child!

From 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. a free light dinner will be provided during a keynote presentation by Merlyn Horton about parenting in a cyber-age. This presentation should be meaningful to parents of children of all ages. Community members are welcome to attend the keynote presentation even if they are not able to attend the after-school workshops.

Registration brochures for the after school workshops can be picked up at Clearwater Secondary School main office or at the District of Clearwater. For more information about the Community Wellness Workshops Day please contact Tricia Persad at 250-674-3328 or Christine Parsons at 250-674-7082.
