The key turns in the slot,

and the beast roars to life.

You take a breath

in the security of the front seat

with the belt strapped across your chest.

Your foot on the brake,

you pull the stick into drive

and feel the beast roll beneath you.

You urge it forward, gaining speed

as you look ahead for your destination.

You guide the beast gently over the ground

as it purrs, content.

You press your foot gently on the gas;

the simple joy of driving has taken over

as you urge the speedometer needle up to sixty.

Then to seventy.

Your mind is occupied with your next move

and the songs on the radio become the soundtrack to the experience.

Rays of sunlight stripe the road.

You watch the greenery pass by

and follow the streams by the roadside.

It’s peaceful. This is where you want to be.
