CWF starts new Wild Classes

The program is designed to get students involved in conservation and literacy, and maybe even see their work published in CWF’s WILD magazine

OTTAWA/CNW/ - Canadian Wildlife Federation is launching a new Wild Classes of the Year program. The program is designed to get students involved in conservation and literacy, and maybe even see their work published in CWF’s WILD magazine.

Students from Kindergarten through Grade 8 are encouraged to brainstorm, research, and get creative with their class as they come up with material for each section of the magazine. The program is designed to cover different subject areas including science, language arts, and social sciences as well as skills such as observation, writing and issues assessment.

Nine winning classes will be chosen, one for each grade (K to 8). Each of those classes will become an inaugural WILD Class of the Year, and the content they create will be published in the May/June 2012 issue of WILD Magazine. As well, all students from the winning classes will receive a complimentary copy of that issue.

“We receive so many amazing and creative content suggestions from kids for WILD magazine, we thought it would be a great idea to dedicate a whole issue to publishing their work,” says Aaron Kylie, WILD Magazine associate publisher and editorial director.

Classes whose work is not chosen will have their work appear online, on a special website dedicated to this exciting project.

Participating classes can register in this unique learning experience at Wild-mag.ca or CWFEducation.ca. Submissions will be accepted until Oct. 31, and winners will be announced on Nov. 28.

Published eight times per year, WILD magazine is the country’s premier wildlife publication aimed at children aged six to 12. Celebrating its 15th anniversary, WILD engages kids’ imaginations and inspires an interest in nature. Each issue is filled with fun stories, wacky games, awesome pictures, crazy comics and oodles more info about wildlife in Canada and around the world.
