The Central North Thompson (CNT) Rod and Gun Club held their annual awards banquet at the Royal Canadian Legion on March 9, and considered it a huge success.

The CNT Rod and Gun Club awards banquet is held to recognize Most Valuable Member of the Year each year. This year two lifetime members, Dietrich Rempel and Elaine Thiessen, were recognized for having been part of the club for a very long time, and on various committees within the club, as well as holding different executive positions over the years.

Club secretary, Rachel Biagioni, said, “Lifetime members aren’t recognized every year, but the club felt that Dietrich and Elaine deserved this special recognition for their long standing service to the club.”

Biagioni explained that every year the club holds a Big Buck contest and all antlers are submitted, then scored and awards are given out to the winners with the highest scoring antlers. “The club encourages youth involvement within the CNT Rod and Gun Club, which is why we give every youth under 12 years old a special prize of their own,” she said.

The evening was well attended with 130 people present to enjoy the awards banquet which was catered by The Hungry Hiker restaurant.

The gun club raises money for club activities, grounds upkeep, and also offers a bursary each graduation to a student from Clearwater Secondary School entering the field of conservation, forestry, wildlife or parks management.

On March 19 during the regular meeting of the club, members were reminded that membership renewal will be taking place on Sat. March 30 from 9 a.m. - 12 noon at the rifle range in Sunshine Valley.

Members were also reminded to bring their keys to exchange for a new one and that it will cost an additional $20 if they have lost last year’s key.

There will be weekly trap shoots starting again on Sunday, May 12 from 12 - 2 p.m. The gun range will be closed to all members from Monday April 8 to Friday April 12 while a new roof is being installed on the rifle range house.

Additional events coming up will be:

The 3D Archery Shoot on May 4 and 5 at the range and the annual Coldscaur Lake Fishing Derby on Sat. June 15.
