I had the opportunity on Thursday (April 15) to attend a book signing and launch with our own local, up and coming, young author Zephram Tino.

The book is titled The Ball of Wisdom and is a fun combo of fantasy, action and comedy. It will take you on a diverting medieval journey with dragons and even leprechauns. Although targeted towards a younger audience it is fun for all ages.

Zephram is just 16 years old and said that he has been writing since he was in the third grade. Wow! He even attended a young author’s conference at Thompson Rivers University while in Grade 4.

Currently, he is in the finals for The Audrey Wearn Language Prize, an award that seeks to “encourage Canadian youth to engage in creative problem solving, encouraging and strengthening multilingualism among Canadians.” Finalists are notified mid-April and invited to participate in a design sprint on Mway 4.

More information can be found on their website (www.audreyprize.com) or searching the hashtag #Audreyprize2021 on Twitter or Facebook.

These are just a few accomplishments of this high-achieving young man.

He learned about public speaking while in cadets and during that time made it to provincial competition level.

Zephram loves to give back and is a volunteer bush firefighter, as well as a food bank volunteer.

He also is currently taking flying lessons and will more than likely continue to get a pilots license.

When asked if he will pursue more writing in his future, he compared it to asking a fish to keep swimming — Of course!

Barnes and Noble has his book available, as well as The Nuthatch in 100 Mile House.

You can message directly to kidfriday004@gmail.com for more info. There is currently no download tablet version but it is in the works.

We can look forward to seeing more literary works from Zephram and say for now a hearty congratulations to a job well done!!
