The Rotary Club of Clearwater held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 8 for the newest addition to the splash park in town: the Dragonfly Pavilion, which will provide some cover for visitors.

“The pavilion is a fantastic addition to the already very busy splash park," said District of Clearwater mayor Merlin Blackwell, who attended the dedication.

"We worked around a kid’s party to do this ribbon cutting. Thanks to the Rotary Club, Wells Gray Community Forest and all the donors and builders who pitched in to accomplish this.”

Local contractor Matt Edwards, owner of Edwards Concrete Solutions, is referred to in the Rotary membership as a “Rotary friend,” and often helps when needed on a variety of community projects. Edwards, who assisted in the construction, was on hand to celebrate the completion.

"I was happy to donate some of the materials for such a worthwhile project for our community," he said. "I’m sure many families will enjoy this new feature at the splash park.”

Rotary director Abbey Bates told the Clearwater Times, “It was the perfect day for the opening ceremony and ribbon-cutting at the Rotary Dragonfly Pavilion, here at our splash park in Clearwater.

"We had to crash a private birthday party to get the picture of the ribbon cutting," she noted, adding "It looks like the structure will be well-used for many more fun gatherings in the future.”

The Clearwater Rotary is an organization of community, business and professional leaders volunteering in service to "create a better future for generations to follow’"by providing humanitarian service to others.

“Funding for the structure was provided by Rotary District 5060, Wells Gray Community Forest Corp. and the Rotary Club of Clearwater," said Bates. "Matt Edwards laid the beautiful concrete slab and Nest Timberhome fabricated the excellent wooden structure. The District of Clearwater provided the location and cleared the ground.

"It was a true community effort. The Rotary Club invites everyone to come and enjoy this new amenity.”

If you are interested in joining the Clearwater Rotary, meetings are held at Wells Gray Inn every second Wednesday at 7 a.m. You can also contact them directly via email at RotaryClearwater@outlook.com or visit their website at: https://cwgrotary.org/.
