The Clearwater Volunteer Fire Department held a teen practice night on Thursday, Sept. 1 in an effort to drum up interest for the future generation of potential volunteer firefighters.
A variety of stations was set up for the eager teens. The objective was to show how many skills a firefighter needs and what the job entails, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. An indoor search in a smoky room, the simulation of a car fire, learning how water gets to a fire, use of a fire extinguisher and first aid were all stations the teens would take part in.
In addition to the stations, teens wore turnout gear, learned how to set up a hydrant and tried on an air pack.
“The turnout was amazing and big smiles were seen everywhere,” the post reads. “We would like to thank all our teens for coming out and hope that everyone had a great time having learned something new.”
