Interior Health has announced an emergency department closure once again at Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital tonight (Oct. 19) due to a shortage of staff.

The emergency department will be closed from 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19 to 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the notice reads. “Please note that open hours are running on limited staff so we are asking the public to please use the emergency room for urgent concerns only.”

Residents are encouraged to call 911 in the event of an emergency and ambulances will be routed straight to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops during closure hours.

Those seeking medical attention can also visit Royal Inland Hospital, or call HealthLink BC at 811 if unsure of their medical care needs.
