Vernon-based artist, Marc André Brzutowski, has dived into Clearwater’s scenic beauty to fundraise for the local food bank.
Brzutowski is exhibiting his work titled ‘Food Camp Paintings’ at the Trans Mountain Pipeline Camp.
He has been in Clearwater since February 2022, painting pictures of the area. The art depict local landscapes and were painted from March to July of this year. Most of the paintings were begun on site at various spots withing a 10-minute drive of camp.
The artist said prior to working on the Trans Mountain pipeline project, he had never lived in a camp which serves such good food.
“I know I am lucky to enjoy an abundance of food here at the camp, but I also know that not everyone is as fortunate,” said Brzutowski.
“I wanted to make a contribution to the food bank in our host community so I will be donating all the proceeds of the artwork on display at the camp to the Clearwater and District food bank.”
He has been painting since 1996 and has undertaken such initiatives for local food banks previously too in places like Kamloops where he lived.
The food bank is the bridge in communities for people who do not have access to basic necessities, said the artist, adding, this is his small way of serving communities like Clearwater.
Last week volunteers from the Clearwater and District Food Bank also visited the camp for the art exhibition, said president Margot Venema.
“It’s always really great that people think of the Clearwater Food Bank and they do these generous initiatives that that benefit the food bank and it is just wonderful,” said Venema
Some of Brzutowski’s paintings will be brought to the upcoming Community Christmas Concert and bake sale on Dec. 3, 2022 and be displayed there.
So far the response has been very encouraging toward the exhibition with support for his colleagues and community members, said Brzutowski
