Reita Vandenborre, a volunteer at the Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop in Vavenby, has told me about the large trailer that is sitting on the store’s property.
“This is some exciting news for recycling from our Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop,” she said. “Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary has become one of the suppliers of Cann-Amm Exports out of Maple Ridge.”
The company supplies the thrift shop volunteers with a trailer and they fill it with their unsaleable clothing and accessories. There are certain rules that they must follow, such as the clothing must be clean, dry, and with no holes.
‘When the trailer is full Cann-Amm comes and exchanges it,” said Vandenborre. “All the clothing we send is sorted and all is recycled in some way. With this new partnership we can assure those who donate to us that their clothing will be used and appreciated. Many thanks to the Princeton Hospital Auxiliary for helping us connect with this company.”
The huge trailer arrived Wednesday, Oct. 19, and is set up beside the shop in Vavenby ready to receive all the excess.
The Vavenby unit of the Auxiliary is responsible for monitoring all the items placed in the trailer and they don’t have the time to check “trailer designated” bags, so please have a non-Vavenby auxiliary member check items going directly to the container.
The Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop and Fine Things Thrift Store in Vavenby are joining together to send their excess to others who need it.
Volunteers from both stores would like to thank Ray Harrison for building the steps to help the workers get into the trailer.
