Editorial Reflections - What will you do? What should we do?

Editorial Reflections for this week asking the questions 'What will you do?' 'What can I do?' 'What will we do?' in this challenging time of change in Canada?

I'm pushing back.  Pushing hard against this wall of hate, detached materialism, ego driven, power hungry dictatorship mentality.  People I know and love, with all my heart, believe in this monstrous imaging and rhetoric and my soul cries out, but my arms remain open wide.

Why? Because I'm the Momma bear, the Momma Grizzly, not just of and for my own, for many good hearts I love.

I've set boundaries, but not about love. I also have hope, pray and have faith they'll one day see what is unfolding literally before our eyes to threaten our survival upon this amazing earth.

Those I love I do so without doubt or fail, if we disagree in our perceptions my love for them is steadfast. Stronger, I think. We've always really known how good we've had it in our part of the Western Hemisphere for so very long in this mind-blowing place we call 'home' in Canada.

The time is now, it's no longer a waiting game of ‘if and when.’ Critical choices must be made to stand for good, for humankind, for truth versus economic gain and for us to rise up in the true name of justice, democracy and freedom against false promises, threats, bullying, prejudice, bigotry, self-serving narcissistic corruption and potential violence.  Our very precious free agency and security is being threatened now minute by minute.

How can we stand by and watch others in our life on earth family be herded like cattle, traumatized, degraded, brutalized and treated so inhumanely without speaking out, reaching out, and using our voices for those who are being silenced?

Look, it's that time in my life when my gut instincts are acute, and my ‘senior’ thoughts naturally revolve around what will be the legacy of my personal footprint for my children, grandchildren and their families yet to come?

I won’t look away, although often I sure do want to. The images of controlling, manipulative, impulsive, self-driven greed literally make my soul shudder, but worse than that feeling are the images of this vile infiltration of such evilly connived, conceived and treacherous manipulation of vulnerable people, buying into the story of a “chicken in every pot” and invisible bits of coins which could be life savings, health care and personal information being downloaded from clouds above to line the pockets of those already rich beyond their means.

We can run, we can hide, we can walk, talk and dive beneath the sand, but the sands of time have run out on complacency, apathy and just plain not wanting to know.

Just like the hidden camera television show “What Would You Do?” hosted by ABC News’ John Quiñones asks… What will you do? What will we do?

We can’t all agree on everything, nor should we, but in spite of differences of opinion, political preferences or personal choices, do you honestly recall a time when there has been such negativity continuously bombarding our daily existence together? Open racism, hate speech becoming seemingly acceptable in disguise of jokes and sarcastic so-called humour is now beginning to spill out of the mouths of children all around us. They don’t get this from nowhere or just television shows. They are learning to live with this as ‘normal’ in the course of their lives.

The question has evolved now to each and every one of us. What will I do? What can we do? What will humanity do in the face of these threats to our very survival?
