Editorial Reflections - Love is not an illusion, it's what you make it

Love is in the air this Valentine's Day and Family Day. How will you spend your quality time with loved ones?

Ah life, you must not pass me by

For yesterday’s tomorrows are swiftly falling nigh.

Wrap me in the fullness of each today…

That I might share my joy along the winding way.

                                                                                                Hettie Buck (HHLHB)

Love isn’t really an illusion, it’s all around us in everything we embrace that is good, sweet and pure as we travel this life school journey together.

Having just celebrated my 70th birthday recently, even though working that day, my heart was overflowing with the purely loving, sweet messages, calls and gestures of flowers and thoughtful gifts from my special guy, children, grandchildren, family, friends and others throughout the day. Any enjoyable way to become distracted, wrapped in well wishes.

Some holidays are we recognize people generated, but I think we can put them to our own good use if we stir in our own unique touch of creativity. As we approach this Valentine’s Day and Family Day, I’m so thankful to be surrounded by so much true love in my life at this stage, age while I continue to ‘turn the page’.

I’ve always been heart on the sleeve, rose coloured glasses and I’m unapologetic as I write this, something positive, thankful, sweet natured and full of faith that good still overcomes evil, truth does prevail and treating others as we would like to be treated comes with reward.

If I can offer any advice as things swirl around us, tempting us to get pulled into negative despair, I think perhaps it doesn’t hurt to take a step into our own necks of the woods, in this beautiful valley, absorbing the natural peace.

This is our Canada and if there is something I am sure the majority can agree upon during this upcoming weekend that accentuates love, family unity and quality time, it’s how fortunate we are to be here together in this moment in time.

Have a Happy Valentine’s Day and enjoy your Family Day time – however you choose to spend it.
