British Columbia seeking answers from Kinder Morgan

The Province submitted more than 70 information requests dealing with spill response, prevention and recovery systems

BC Environmental Assessment Office

VICTORIA – The Province of British Columbia has filed a motion with the National Energy Board requesting that Kinder Morgan provide more detailed information about the proposed Trans Mountain Expansion project.

As part of the National Energy Board's review of Kinder Morgan's Trans Mountain Expansion project, the Province submitted more than 70 information requests dealing with maritime and land-based spill response, prevention and recovery systems.

In a number of cases, Kinder Morgan's responses to the information requests do not provide sufficient information. That makes it difficult for the Province to evaluate whether the Trans Mountain Expansion project will include world-leading marine and land oil spill systems.World-leading marine and land oil spill systems are two of the five requirements that must be satisfied for B.C. to support any heavy oil pipeline.
