Ice Hawks play well during first days of U18 minor hockey championship in Clearwater

Coach reports two wins and a tie, says players are enjoying the tournament

Clearwater Ice Hawks coach Ole Kjenstad said the town’s U18 players are having a great time at the Tier 4 provincial championship minor hockey tournament the town is hosting.

The Clearwater team beat Vanderhoof in its first game 5-4, then tied with the Kelowna team 3-3 during their second game, Kjenstad told the Clearwater Times during the second day of game-play.

Then, Clearwater played Quesnel in a tough game resulting in a 6-4 win for Ice Hawks, Kjenstad said.

“It went well, it was a battle,” Kjenstad said, “It was a really good team effort.”

Noting that manager Tera Carter spearheaded the tournament, while Kjenstad and his father Ken Kjenstad recruited as many as thirty sponsors for the championship games. “It went swimmingly, the community has always stepped up with their philanthropy and supported us.”

The games will continue at the North Thompson Sportsplex at Murtle Crescent until March 23.
